The China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) welcomed students from the Yenching Academy of Peking University to its headquarters in Hong Kong on June 9. Representing a diverse group of nationalities, including the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, and China, the students are currently on a tour of Hong Kong, the first in the Academy’s history, and Zhuhai.
During their visit, the students participated in a live dialogue with Mr. Andy Tung, Vice Chair of CUSEF; Mr. James Chau, President of CUSEF; and Mrs. Laura Cha, former Chair of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The speakers shared their insights and experience on Hong Kong’s pivotal role in China’s development and its ability to foster global dialogue. The students also joined in the conversation, sharing their connections with Hong Kong and mainland China as well as their understanding of cultural exchanges between China and the United States.
Additional esteemed attendees included Mr. Stanley Sun, Member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration, and Mr. Alan Lo, Chairman of Para Site, the Hong Kong-based art nonprofit. Also present were guests from the Victoria Shanghai Academy in Hong Kong, including Secondary School Principal Dr. Shirla Sum, Vice Principal Ms. Rebecca Lucas-Timpany, and several of their students.
The Yenching Academy delegation is visiting Hong Kong and Zhuhai from June 8 to 13, where they visited the Heritage of Mei Ho House in Sham Shui Po to learn about Hong Kong's public housing legacy, the Ex-Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir—a historic underground structure—and Apliu Street, known for its bustling markets and unique local charm. They stopped by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and tour the M+ Museum in the West Kowloon District.
Following their time in Hong Kong, the delegation will travel to Zhuhai, where they will visit Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai, Zhuhai Museum, and Zhuhai Aerospace Land.
